I offered to work on a video for someone who said they found these tapes in their friends dad’s basement. I was under the impression they were uncirculated master VHS tapes of the entire Starry Night 4/5/91. I used to collect a lot of VHS. I had about a hundred shows in the late 90’s. So I had a good sense of what was out there. To the best of my bad memory this one didn’t circulate. The good news is that it is this show and it is complete. The bad news is that it is not master tapes. They are multigen and even have poor lineage in terms of SLP recording and the like. As with any restoration you basically take it as far as the budget allows. Otherwise you can work on it forever. In this case the budget was my precious time. So I’ve done what I can do. Loads of work on the audio. A lot of which nobody will notice. Removing clicks, feedback, thumps, reducing hiss in specific frequency ranges, eliminating buzzes, reducing distortion, patching missing elements, and overall sweetening. In terms of the video I stopped short of trying to stabilize anything. It was shot on a tripod but there is a lot of camera shake. I would need a lot of time and effort to reduce this. There are drawbacks to doing so as well. I decided to leave the shake as it was. Please subscribe!
