YEMBlog just posted this gem from the July 23, 1992, edition of “Hanging w/MTV” in which four dudes from Vermont serve as the house band.

This has the strange ability of making you double over with laughter while simultaneously clawing your eyes out.

Setlist (from Phish.net): The Landlady, Buried Alive, Rift, Vacuum Solo, Poor Heart, Guelah Papyrus, YEM, Stash, Jam, Divided Sky

Phish 'Junta' Deluxe 3-LP Vinyl Available For Record Store Day

On Record Store Day 2012, Phish will release Junta, the band’s first full-length studio album, as a Limited Edition Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set, available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. Junta marks the band’s second release in conjunction with Record Store Day, and the first time Junta has ever been released on vinyl.

This LE Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. Junta was recorded at Euphoria Sound Studios in Revere, Massachusetts in 1987 and 1988 on 16-track 2” tape and was mixed to 1/4” stereo reels. In addition to writing and performing all the music, the band produced the album themselves.

Junta was originally self-released on cassette tape in May 1989 with packaging created by the band (included in the new vinyl package). The album was remastered and rereleased as a double CD (and cassette) in October 1992. Junta was certified Gold but, until now, has never been heard on vinyl. The vinyl release was created from the original stereo master reels with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Each LP is pressed onto 180g audiophile grade vinyl and includes a free MP3 download of the entire album (transferred from the new vinyl master).

2,500 of the Junta LE Deluxe 3-LP sets will include a brand new Limited Edition hand-carved, hand-printed linolium block poster by Jim Pollock, created exclusively for this release. These editions will be distributed randomly at participating independently owned record stores across the country, but will be clearly marked.

This LE Deluxe 3-LP vinyl set was created exclusively for Record Store Day. Junta will be available in stores only beginning Saturday, April 21st. For a complete list of participating record stores, please click here.

If you could only see what I see when I walk onstage…I see the faces. I see joy. And if that’s escapism for three hours then fine. There are enough bad messages in our culture that people are getting bombarded with CONSTANTLY: you’re not good enough, you don’t look right, you don’t have enough money. And to be able to look at a large group of people looking back at me who look like they don’t have a care in the world for fifteen seconds…not only that, but they feel like they’re…joy, there’s actual joy etched into their faces for a bit of time. It’s such an honor.

Take this into your weekend.
Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!

Yeah, I remember the first time I saw Trey at a bar. It was a pinnacle moment of my life. I’ll never forget walking up to those flowing red locks, sitting down next to him and ordering a Mai Thai. He gave me a glance from the side and gave me a nod and a smirk. The kind of nod and smirk that says, ‘that’s my kind of man.’ My drink was only half-slid across the bar counter before Trey started to pipe up with his opiate-crackled robust voice. ‘You come here often?’ I took a single sip of my Mai Thai. ‘You must be a libra’, I retorted, with masculinity. That’s when we got to talking. We laughed, we cried. I told him of the day my dog died; he told me of the day he got his first DUI. It must have been 4 or 5 Mai Thais before I first decided to pop the big question. ‘So’, I recited, between drags of my cigarette, “How about Alaska > Wading tonight?”

Trey busted out a sly chuckle, and the rest was history: 12/31/11

Every once in awhile, Phantasy Tour still delivers a nugget of truly hilarious Phish humor.
