PhishTracks.com Brings the Jam Band's Vast Live Catalog Online →
I’m not a huge Phish fan, but the importance of this fan-made project reaches far beyond just their music.
Of course, a site like this was going to be made it would be for them. It simply makes sense for Phish’s often-traded and collected catalog of live shows, which spans three decades, to be available online for free and instant listening. But think about what this could mean for not only other jam bands, but powerhouse touring acts like Bruce Springsteen.
Phish already offers recording of their live shows to fans who attended, but this one online tool brings it all together. Imagine if you could interact with your favorite musician is such a deep way. Even if you’re not a Phish fan I’d recommend checking it out.
Two interesting things about this:
1.) It started out from a giant Google Doc spread sheet of the band’s shows that were uploaded by thousands of people. Been going on for years.
2.) All of the recordings are from the band’s fans. There aren’t any official Live Phish (the band’s own recordings that are for sale).
And PSA — Sunday is the last day to put in for Summer Tour dates. See you at Merriweather, Jones Beach, PNC and Dick’s. Hopefully!
